Privacy Policy

Overview

Hassab is a personal finance and shared expense app. We designed it so your financial information is stored in your account and used to provide the features you choose to use.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your financial data for advertising or credit scoring.

Hassab is free to use and may show ads through Google AdMob. See the Advertising section below. We also use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used — this covers app-usage events (such as which screens you open and features you use) and does not include your financial details.

Information you provide

When you create an account or use the app, you may provide:

  • Account details such as your name and email address
  • Authentication credentials when you sign in with email and password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple
  • Personal finance data you enter, including expenses, income, transfers, wallets, debit cards, cash wallets, savings goals, credit cards, debts, loans, subscriptions, and categories
  • Group information such as group names, shared expenses, settlements, chat messages, and optional receipt photos attached to group expenses
  • App preferences such as default currency and language

Information collected automatically

To operate the service, we also process limited technical data:

  • A Firebase user ID linked to your account
  • Push notification tokens if you enable notifications, stored so we can deliver payment reminders and group alerts you request
  • Basic device platform information (for example, iOS or Android)
  • App-usage analytics events via Google Analytics for Firebase (for example, which screens are opened and features used), so we can improve the app. This does not include your financial details.
  • Network connectivity status on your device to show offline states and help prevent failed writes
  • On iOS, if you allow App Tracking Transparency, AdMob may use an advertising identifier to show more relevant ads. You can deny tracking and still use the app.

We do not collect precise location data, contacts, calendars, or health data.

How we use information

We use your information only to:

  • Provide, sync, and secure the app's finance and group features
  • Calculate balances, summaries, reminders, and shared group activity
  • Authenticate you and keep your account secure
  • Send optional push notifications you enable
  • Respond to support requests and maintain the service
  • Display ads that help keep Hassab free (through Google AdMob)
  • Understand how the app is used, through Google Analytics for Firebase, to improve features and fix problems

We do not use your financial data for advertising, credit scoring, or profiling across other companies' apps or websites.

Where data is stored

Hassab uses Google Firebase services to store and process account data, including Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Firebase Cloud Messaging, and Google Analytics for Firebase.

Ads are served through Google AdMob, which processes data according to Google's policies.

Your private personal data is stored under your user account in Firestore. Receipt photos you attach to group expenses are stored in Firebase Storage under paths scoped to the group and your user ID.

Sharing with other people

Most personal finance data stays private to your account.

When you join or create a group, other active members of that group can see the shared information you contribute, such as expenses, balances, settlements, messages, and receipt images uploaded to that group.

If you sign in with Google or Apple, those providers process authentication according to their own privacy policies. Hassab receives only the account information needed to sign you in.

Google (Firebase and AdMob) processes data on our behalf as a service provider. We do not sell your personal information to data brokers.

Notifications

Notifications are optional. If you enable them, Hassab stores a push notification token so the backend can send functional alerts such as upcoming payments, credit card due dates, new group expenses, and group messages.

Notification tokens are used only to deliver these app features. They are not sold or used for ad targeting.

Advertising

Hassab uses Google AdMob to show banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads. Ads help keep the app free.

  • We do not send your expense amounts, group balances, or other financial entries to advertisers.
  • On iOS, you may see Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can choose not to allow tracking and still use Hassab.
  • Ad frequency is limited in the app (for example, caps on interstitials per session).
  • Google's use of data from AdMob partners is described in Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

You can reset ad tracking choices anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Your choices & account deletion

You can review and update profile details, currency, language, categories, and notification permissions in Settings.

You may sign out at any time from Settings.

You may request account deletion from Settings → Security → Delete Account. When deletion is processed:

  • Your private personal finance data stored in your account is removed from our backend
  • Your Firebase Authentication account is deleted
  • Your membership in shared groups is anonymized so other members keep financial continuity
  • Shared group history may remain in the group in anonymized form

Some information may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period as part of normal infrastructure retention, after which it is removed according to provider practices.

Security

We use Firebase security rules, authenticated access, and server-side checks for sensitive financial operations. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your account data using industry-standard practices appropriate for a finance app.

Children

Hassab is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

International users

Hassab may be used from different countries. Your information may be processed and stored on servers operated by Google Firebase in regions selected for the project. By using the app, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Hassab after an update means you accept the revised policy.
